ftp/sftp

The ftp command is used to transfer multiple files to or from a remote computer. It uses File Transfer Protocal (FTP). This is an interactive command which allows to navigate in the file tree of the remote computer.

cd change directory on the remote computer
lcd change directory on the local computer
pwd print working directory on the remote computer
lpwd print working directory on the local computer
ls list the content of the current directory on the remote computer
lls list the content of the current directory on the local computer
mkdir create a directory on the remote computer
lmkdir create a directory on the local computer
get fichier transfer 1 file from the remote computer to the local computer
put fichier transfer 1 file from the local computer to the remote computer
mget fichier(s) transfer 1 or more files from the remote computer to the local computer
mput fichier(s) transfer 1 or more files from the local computer to the remote computer
quit end of connexion

The ftp command is a client software that requires the existence of a ftp server on the remote host. Because maintaining a ftp serveur on a computer is a delicate task (piracy), it is ofter simpler to use the command sftp which allows ftp through a secure ssh connexion. Using sftp is very similar in its principle as using ftp.
